FLUTIST - ANN KUO

Collaborative Works:

Ann Kuo is currently studying at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, where she studies with Jim Walker. Ms. Kuo is the youngest and first Taiwanese flute student ever to be selected into Colburn Music Academy. Recently, she has been named as a Third Prize in the National Flute Association Young Artists Competition. She has received remarkable awards from numerous international competitions including International Flute Competition Guangzhou, Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition, Biwako International Flute Competition, and National Taiwan Music Student Competition. She has performed across the globe in a variety of genres, from classical solo, chamber music, to jazz and pop. Her interests in different genres of music and Taiwanese background has led her to be an unique and innovative musician. She has performed in several countries, including the USA, Canada, Austria, Switzerland, Taiwan, and Japan. As a soloist, Ms. Kuo has performed concertos with the Colburn Orchestra and the Mount Orchestra, as well as recitals in Los Angeles and Taipei. She has received masterclasses and lessons from professionals around the world, including Emmanuel Pahud, Julien Beaudiment, Denis Bouriakov, Ransom Wilson, Carol Wincenc, etc. In the summer, Ms. Kuo has previously joined Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra, Domaine Forget International Academy, Interlochen Arts Camp, Taipei Music Academy and Festival, and Sarasota Festival. Last Summer, Ms. Kuo had a charity recital in Taiwan on the topic of “Sound of Home” where she played music from around the world and commissioned a new work by a Taiwanese composer. The profit from the recital was dedicated to two orphanages in Taiwan. In the future, Ms. Kuo seeks for an ultimate artistry while keeping the mind open to all kinds of music in the world.

PIANIST - CHI-JO Lee

Collaborative Works:

Chi-Jo Lee, is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma in piano performance at the Colburn Conservatory of Music. Having earned her master’s degree from Colburn in 2023 studying with Fabio Bidini. As a keyboard instructor at the Colburn Academy since 2023, she shares her knowledge with young musicians. Prior to her time at Colburn, Chi-Jo honed her craft under the guidance of pianist André Watts at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Her musical journey has taken her to venues in the United States, Italy, Japan, China, and Taiwan.

Chi-Jo Lee emerges as a versatile pianist, navigating diverse genres from solo performances to chamber and contemporary music. As a solo pianist, she won prizes at The Wideman Piano competition, The Odyssiad festival and competition, and the concerto competitions at Indiana University and at the Colburn School. She made her radio live show solo debut at the WFIU public station in Indiana. She was recently a semi-finalist at The Gurwitz Competition in the United States.

As a native of Taiwan and a chamber music enthusiast, her piano trio was the 2022 winner of the Eslite chamber music audition. Prior to this achievement, she received multiple prizes from Taipei Education Department competition on both solo piano and piano trio from 2011 to 2015.

Chi-Jo, as a chamber musician, collaborated with esteemed artists such as Susan Graham, Andy Akiho, Tessa Lark, and Arnaud Sussmann, as part of the Colburn Chamber Music Society. She performed at La Jolla Musi Society and Le Salon de Musiques chamber series in San Diego. Additionally, she has engaged in collaborative projects with the LA Opera. Her performance was reviewed and featured in publications such as The San Diego Union-Tribune (2023) and The Santa Barbara Independent (2022).

Her interest in Contemporary Music was sparked during her time as an Alto singer in NOTUS, the Contemporary Vocal Ensemble directed by conductor-composer Dominic DiOrio. She has been a part of Colburn School’s Contemporary Ensemble. Throughout but not limited to this involvement has led to performances featuring compositions by Steve Reich, Guillaume Connesson, Christopher Cerrone, Andy Akiho, Juri Seo, Nico Muhly, and more. Ms. Lee’s festival experiences include the Aspen Music Festival and Music, Music Academy of the West, and Norfolk Chamber Music Festival.

CELLIST

Tze-WEI Jack Huang

Collaborative Works:

Tzu-Wei Jack Huang, a Taiwanese cellist, has captivated audiences worldwide with his virtuosity and passion for music. Notably, he made his concerto debut with the Jenaer Philharmonie at Neue Weimarhalle, Germany, and served as the guest cello principal with the Taiwan Philharmonic/National Symphony Orchestra, performing at esteemed venues such as the National Concert Hall of Taiwan.

In addition to his performance endeavors, Tzu-Wei is actively involved in prize-winning chamber ensembles across Taiwan, Italy, and the United States. His chamber ensembles have won the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition multiple times. He also shares his expertise by teaching masterclasses at National Kaohsiung Normal University in Taiwan, imparting his knowledge and skills to aspiring musicians.

Furthermore, Mr. Huang serves as a Teaching Assistant of Music History at Manhattan School of Music. He also holds the position of Doctoral Fellow at The Center for Career Readiness & Community Impact at Manhattan School of Music, serving as a liaison between the school, students, and staff at senior living residences, memory care programs, and community centers.

Additionally, Jack has participated in prestigious music festivals such as the Music Academy of the West, the Bowdoin International Music Festival, the International Summer Academy of Mozarteum University in Salzburg, and Toas School of Music.

His education journey has been marked by excellence, supported by scholarships and awards. He received the Yolanda Sardi Schwartzman Scholarship Fund during his Master of Music studies at The Juilliard School, where he studied under Richard Aaron. Prior to that, he completed his Bachelor of Music at Manhattan School of Music under the guidance of Philippe Muller. Currently, he is pursuing his Doctoral of Musical Arts at Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Julia Lichten.

Jack’s dedication to excellence extends beyond his academic achievements. He continues to enrich the classical music scene with his performances and collaborations with international musicians, including Nai-Yuan Hu, Paul Neubauer, Andrew Bain, Patrick Jee, and Scott Lee, showcasing his remarkable talent and commitment to his craft.

YUHSIN GALAXY SU

Collaborative Works:

Yuhsin Galaxy Su, hailing from Taipei, Taiwan, is celebrated for her "unique vision" and "dedicated musical interpretations." A versatile clarinetist and pianist, she has captivated audiences worldwide both as a soloist and collaborative artist.

Galaxy recently achieved a significant milestone by winning the clarinet audition for the San Francisco Symphony, where she will join as a section clarinetist for the 2024 season.

Earlier this year, Galaxy completed her master's degree at the renowned Colburn School of Music under the guidance of Yehuda Gilad. During her time there, she delivered impressive performances as a concert soloist at the Musique et Vin Music Festival and as a chamber musician at the Marlboro Music Festival. Her musical journey began at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music at just 16 years old, studying under Anthony McGill, principal clarinet of the New York Philharmonic. During her time at Curtis, Galaxy was selected for the esteemed Curtis 20/21 Ensemble, performing Pierrot Lunaire in fully choreographed productions at venues such as the Kimmel Center, Columbia University, Kennedy Center, and Curtis Field Recital Hall.

Galaxy's talent has been recognized since a young age, winning top prizes in the HSNU concerto competition in 2013 and 2014 with performances of works by Weber and Mozart. She was awarded a full scholarship to participate in the International Morningside Music Bridge in Canada, where she also received third prize at the 18th Morningside Music Bridge Concerto Competition, along with the audience prize.

At just 15 years old, Galaxy released her debut album, "The Best of my First Fifteen Years." Her early successes culminated in winning the first prize at the Young Classical Virtuoso of Tomorrow Music Competition the following year.

Galaxy's impressive resume also includes invitations as a soloist to prestigious events such as the International Clarinet Association and the Beijing International Clarinet Festival. She has been awarded the Chimei Arts Award twice and was accepted to the Juilliard School as a Kovner Fellowship recipient.
